Letter: Phillips Cares about LGBTQ People; Paulsen Cares about Re-election

To the editor:

After seeing all the love and support during the Pride celebrations this weekend, I continue to think about voting for a leader who will support the needs of Minnesota’s LGBTQ members I support. That leader is Dean Phillips because you don’t need to guess how he feels about the LGBTQ community. He has always been passionate about equality and an outspoken ally, and he even attended the Pride parade to celebrate equality and love. This is how our representatives should act!

When it comes to Erik Paulsen, I fear he lacks the backbone to stand up for what is right. He only recently claimed to support gay rights because it became politically expedient. This just highlights the biggest difference between Dean and Erik. Dean cares about people first; Erik only cares about getting re-elected.

There is no excuse for Erik Paulsen to be as quiet as he has been on gay rights. Erik Paulsen has shown he’s a bystander, not a leader. We need someone with courage and a sense of justice. That is why I support Dean Phillips.
